What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multi-Factor Authentication (or MFA) is a security tool that uses an email, SMS, or authenticator app (like Authy or Google Authenticator) to add a second layer of protection to your account.
We have implemented MFA across all of our applications to make sure our customers' data is safer and more secure.
How to Use MFA with RideCo
When you register for a RideCo-powered program, or when you sign in for the first time after updating the app, you may be shown a QR Code. On this screen, you will see a drop-down menu. You can select from Email, SMS, or Authenticator.
Option 1: Email and SMS
In the drop-down menu labelled "Authenticator," look for the two other options. Email and SMS are both automatically filled in based on your profile information.
Select Email or SMS from the drop-down.
Upon pressing the button to "Send a One-time code," the message (Email or SMS) will be sent with a code attached, as shown above. If email was selected, you will receive the code via email. If SMS is selected, you will receive a new message on the phone number connected to your account.
Enter the code and press "Enable."
Recovery Codes
You will be presented with a set of recovery codes. Make sure to store these in a safe location; these codes can be used if you are unable to get one from your authenticator.
Option 2: Authenticator
If you choose to use the authenticator option, you will require an authenticator application on your smartphone.
Make sure "Authenticator" is selected on the application.
On your smartphone, go to your authenticator application.
Press the add button.
Scan the QR Code displayed in the application or click the link provided if you're using a mobile device.
Once the code is scanned, you will have a new security code on your screen.
Enter the code into the application and click enable.
Recovery Codes
You will be presented with a set of recovery codes. Make sure to store these in a safe location; these codes can be used if you are unable to get one from your authenticator.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your local transit provider via the 'Contact Us' button in the app or by using the contact information on their website.
